Notes of Interest

● After racing on an active Naval base in Southern California, NASCAR remains on the West Coast this weekend and will continue road course racing, visiting Sonoma Raceway, which is comfortably situated in Sonoma County’s Wine Country.

● This weekend’s hilly, flowing 1.99-mile permanent road course provides a drastically different landscape from last weekend’s temporary street circuit at Naval Base Coronado.

● Sunday’s event at Sonoma Raceway marks the NASCAR Cup Series’ fourth and final road course race of the 2026 season.

● Haas Factory Team makes its annual visit to Caymus Vineyards, a Napa Valley-based winery and four-year partner of the team. Cole Custer and his crew will enjoy a relaxing, private dinner with Caymus’s leadership at its beautiful Caymus-Suisun winery in the Suisun Valley ahead of the heated on-track action.

By the Numbers

● Sunday will mark Cole Custer’s 24th career NASCAR Cup Series start on a road course, highlighted by a career-best eighth-place finish last season in Mexico City.

● Custer boasts two career NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Road Course wins: Portland (2023) and the Chicago Street Race (2023).

● Fun Fact: Nearly 4,000 sheep that live on track property provide an invaluable service, helping to maintain the grass and fire lanes around the facility.

● The Goodyear Racing Eagle tire package for this weekend’s event at Sonoma Raceway is identical to the one run last weekend at San Diego’s Naval Base Coronado. Teams will receive 7 sets of tires for the race weekend (5 new race sets / 1 qualifying set transferred to the race / 1 practice set).
