Notes of Interest

● NASCAR and Haas Factory Team will pay a visit to the Windy City once again for the traditional Fourth of July holiday weekend, but this time, the sport will trade the streets of downtown Chicago for the outskirts of the city for the long-awaited return of Chicagoland Speedway.

● Situated in Joliet, Chicagoland Speedway was one of two Midwest-based intermediate ovals introduced to NASCAR in 2001 and remained on the schedule through the 2019 season. NASCAR returns after a seven-year hiatus.

● A week ago at Sonoma Raceway, Cole Custer earned a 20th-place finish at Sonoma Raceway, his fourth in the last seven NASCAR Cup Series races.

● In addition to his Cup duties this weekend, Custer will make his fifth and final O’Reilly Series start of the 2026 season.

By the Numbers

● Cole Custer is set to make his first career Cup Series start at Chicagoland this Sunday, and his first start at the track since 2019, when he dominated the O’Reilly Series race by leading 151 laps en route to victory. It marked the fourth of his seven wins that season.

● In Custer’s three career O’Reilly Series starts at Chicagoland, Custer led an impressive 192 laps and recorded top-10 finishes in every race.

● The Goodyear Racing Eagle Cup Series tire setup for this weekend was most recently used at Nashville Superspeedway. The left-side tire has since also raced at Michigan International Speedway and Pocono Raceway. Teams will receive 12 sets of tires for the race weekend (8 new race sets / 1 qualifying set transferred to the race / 3 practice sets).
