Notes of Interest

● As the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season comes to a close, Standard Nuclear ends the year in strong fashion. Cole Custer turned in a 13th-place finish at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in July before posting a top-10 result at Daytona International Speedway in August, both of which came with the No. 41 Chevrolet Camaro adorned in the iconic Standard Nuclear livery.

● For the first time since 2019, the NASCAR Cup Series returns to Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend to contest the NASCAR Cup Series Championship. The season finale was previously held at the South Florida track from 2002 to 2019 before it moved to Phoenix Raceway.

● The inaugural NASCAR Cup Series race was held at Homestead on November 14, 1999, with Tony Stewart collecting the trophy at the Pennzoil 400. It was Stewart’s first of three wins at the track. The pole winner that weekend was current NASCAR Official, David Green.

● Homestead-Miami Speedway sits on 600 acres and features 1,005 palm trees of 15 different varieties. The entire speedway landscape weighs an estimated 10 billion pounds, and its water tower has a capacity of 1 million gallons, which is enough water to fill 20,000 bathtubs.

● STANDARD NUCLEAR DIECAST: On August 29, Cole Custer wheeled his No. 41 Standard Nuclear Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 to a top-10 finish under the lights at Daytona International Speedway. Lionel has announced the production of a diecast of Custer’s Standard Nuclear car, and you can order yours here.

By the Numbers

● Custer will make his fifth NASCAR Cup Series start at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend, where he has been near perfect, completing 99.7% of the laps at the 1.5-mile asphalt oval.

● In his 35 Cup starts this season, the California native has completed 9,291 of a possible 9,663 laps, resulting in an impressive 96.2% lap completion percentage.

● Custer earned his first career NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series win at Homestead in 2017.

● The NASCAR Cup Series finale will be run with a familiar Goodyear Racing Eagle tire setup that has raced at all 1.5-mile tracks this season. The championship weekend tires have been used 11 times in 2026, including four times in the Chase. This tire setup was introduced last September and has not yet raced at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Each team receives 12 sets of tires for the race weekend (eight new race sets, one qualifying set transferred to the race and three sets for practice).
