Notes of Interest
● Talladega Superspeedway hosts its first of two race dates this weekend, as NASCAR descends on the state of Alabama for its third superspeedway race of the 2026 season.
● The longest oval in NASCAR at 2.66 miles, Talladega is one of the most unpredictable tracks on the circuit; a place that is equally likely to produce a surprise first-time winner, a 20-car pileup, or both in the same race.
● Built in 1969, Talladega Superspeedway’s property now covers about 3,000 acres, including the track site and parking areas. The infield area is 247 acres.
● Richard Brickhouse won the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway on September 13, 1969, edging Jim Vandiver and Ramo Stott.
● Each team gets seven sets of Goodyear Racing Eagle tires for the race (six new race sets plus one set transferred from qualifying).
By the Numbers
● Cole Custer makes his ninth NASCAR Cup Series start at Talladega this weekend, where he has an 18.0 average finish, and finished a career-best fifth last fall. His other top-10 finish came in the spring of 2021 when he finished 10th.
● Custer qualified 12th in both Talladega Cup Series races last season, and averages a 22.8 starting position.
● Custer has posted three top-10 finishes in his six NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series starts at Talladega.
