Notes of Interest

● With just five races remaining on the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series calendar, the sport plays a bit of a home game this weekend. With nearly all of the teams based in the Charlotte area, drivers and crew members will be able to sleep in their own beds this weekend.

● For the first time since 2017, NASCAR’s fall weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway will return to the track’s oval as all three of the sport’s national touring series will continue their title runs on the traditional 1.5-mile layout.

● Charlotte Motor Speedway became the first modern superspeedway to host night racing in 1992, and in 2011, the track set a Guinness World Record with the debut of the world’s largest HDTV at a sports venue, spanning nearly 16,000 square feet of viewing pleasure for fans.

● The World 600, the inaugural Cup Series race at Charlotte, took place on June 19, 1960, with Joe Lee Johnson capturing the checkered flag.

● After starting 26th at World Wide Technology Raceway on September 13, Custer charged to an 11th-place finish in the No. 41 Bonanza Wines Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

By the Numbers

● Custer will make his seventh Cup Series start at Charlotte this weekend, where he owns an 18.2 average finish and a track-best 12th-place result from 2020. He finished 16th in this year’s Coca-Cola 600. He has completed 99.4% of the laps at the high-speed 1.5-mile quad-oval.

● In his 31 Cup starts this season, Custer has completed 8,036 of a possible 8,395 laps, resulting in an impressive 95.7% lap completion percentage.

● In eight NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series starts, Custer has six top-10 results and 54 laps led.

● NASCAR Cup Series teams will run the same Goodyear Racing Eagle tire setup for a third consecutive race this Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway. These Goodyear Racing Eagles, which ran in the recent races at Kansas Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway, are also the same tires that ran in the Coca-Cola 600 in May. Each team receives 11 sets of tires for the race weekend (eight new race sets, one qualifying set transferred to the race and two sets for practice).
