Notes of Interest
● A week ago, Cole Custer turned in his strongest performance of the season at Watkins Glen International, earning a season-best 15th-place finish in the Go Bowling at The Glen NASCAR Cup Series race.
● On Tuesday, Custer took a trip to Indianapolis Motor Speedway as a guest of NTT INDYCAR SERIES driver Felix Rosenqvist on opening day of Indianapolis 500 practice. With speeds hitting 240-miles per hour in Indy 500 practice, the speed difference between NASCAR and IndyCar at the famed speedway was topic of conversation.
● For the first time in the event’s over 40-year history, NASCAR will take the All-Star Race to the track famously known as the “Monster Mile”, Dover Motor Speedway, where drivers and teams will look to conquer the concrete oval and take home one-million dollars.
● This year’s NASCAR All-Star Race will feature a new format, adding a final segment of 200-laps where 26 drivers will have the opportunity to cash-in on the grand prize. All drivers will race in the first two segments, with lineups set by qualifying. Then, following Segment One, the top 26 finishers will be inverted to begin the second segment. The final 200-lap segment will feature 26 cars, with race winners and previous champions automatically locked in. The remaining spots will be filled based on the results of the first two segments, with the final position awarded through the fan vote.
● Each team gets ten sets of Goodyear Racing Eagle tires for the weekend (6 race / 2 qualifying & pit crew challenge / 2 practice).
By the Numbers
● Custer makes his sixth Cup Series start at Dover Motor Speedway this weekend, where he has four top-15 finishes. His two top-10 results came in back-to-back seasons, finishing 10th in both 2020 and 2021.
● The Ladera Ranch, Calif., native is looking for his third career appearance in the All-Star Race, previously qualifying for the main event in 2020 (16th) and 2021 (14th).
● In the NASCAR O’Reilly Series, Custer has seven top-10 finishes in eight starts at Dover, leading 332 laps and capturing the victory in 2019. He also has three career starts at the “Monster Mile” in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
