Notes of Interest
● This weekend, NASCAR takes over the city recognized as the “Racing Capital of the World”, taking on the hallowed grounds of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, highlighted by Sunday’s Brickyard 400 – the Cup Series’ third crown jewel event of the season.
● Powering America’s future starts with American innovation. This weekend, that story rolls into the Brickyard. A full-season partner of Haas Factory Team, Standard Nuclear will serve as the primary sponsor of Cole Custer’s No. 41 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 at the famed 2.5-mile facility.
● In addition to the car, Standard Nuclear’s branding will be featured on Custer’s driver uniform, team shirts and hats, as well as on the team’s hauler and pit equipment, delivering consistent, high-visibility exposure both on and off the track.
● The inaugural NASCAR race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was the Brickyard 400, held on August 6, 1994. The event marked the first NASCAR stock car race at the legendary track and attracted a record crowd of over 250,000 spectators. Jeff Gordon captured the checkered flag.
● The track’s dimensions have remained largely unchanged since its construction in 1909. IMS has two 0.625-mile straightaways, four geometrically identical 0.250-mile turns, connected by two 0.125-mile short straightaways, termed “short chutes”, between turns 1 and 2, and between turns 3 and 4. The turns have 9° banking, considered relatively flat by American standards.
● Standard Nuclear experienced its own excitement away from the track recently, debuting on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “STDN”. With the support of public market investors, they are focused on scaling domestic TRISO fuel production and advancing the future of nuclear energy.
By the Numbers
● Custer makes his third career Cup Series start this weekend at the Indianapolis oval, where he crossed the line in fifth in July 2020. Last season, he finished 20th.
● The California native also made two NASCAR Cup Series starts at the Indy Road Course, with a best finish of ninth in 2022.
● Custer has three top-10 results in four O’Reilly Series starts at Indy, leading 47 total laps and earning a pole in July 2024.
● NASCAR Cup Series teams will run a new right-side Goodyear Racing Eagle alongside a familiar left-side tire in this weekend’s race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The new right-side tire features an updated construction with a new tread compound, and will pair with the left-side tire that most recently ran at Chicagoland Speedway. Each team will receive 11 sets for the race (10 new race sets plus one set transferred from qualifying)
