Notes of Interest
● At Michigan International Speedway last week, Cole Custer turned in a season-best 12th-place finish after starting 15th.
● Custer’s Michigan effort capped off a four-week stretch where he finished lower than 16th only once (21st at Nashville) and qualified in the top-20 three of the four weeks (22nd at Charlotte).
● The next stop on the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series schedule is the track famously dubbed the “Tricky Triangle”.
● Pocono Raceway came by the nickname honestly because the Tricky Triangle features three turns – each entirely different and built to resemble a corner from other famous racing venues. Turn 1 is from Trenton Speedway (14 degrees), Turn 2 is from Indianapolis Motor Speedway (8 degrees) and Turn 3 is from the Milwaukee Mile (6 degrees).
● Each team gets seven sets of Goodyear Racing Eagle tires for the race (six new race sets plus one set transferred from qualifying). Goodyear will introduce a new right side tire for this weekend’s race at Pocono Raceway that combines technology unique to the “Tricky Triangle” with learnings from its intermediate track tire specifications.
By the Numbers
● Custer will be making his ninth Cup Series start at Michigan this weekend, where he has a 23.1 average finish.
● He has an average starting position of 23.8 at the track, with a career-best qualifying effort of 5th, which he posted during his visit to the Long Pond track in 2025 and in 2020.
● In his eight NASCAR Cup Series starts at the Tricky Triangle, Custer has completed 1062 of 1180 laps, giving him an impressive 90% lap completion percentage at one of NASCAR’s most challenging venues.
