Brent Sherman & Big Lots! Daytona Post Race Release
Daytona Beach, FL (February 20, 2007) Going into
Daytona, Brent Sherman and the McGill Motorsports race team had
a goal of being patient during the race and to be there at the
finish. Their goal was accomplished as the team qualified
28th and picked up seven spots during the race to finish 21st,
while also keeping the Big Lots! Chevy in one piece and avoiding
several on track incidents during the race. Additionally,
Sherman also led lap 66 and picked up the Featherlite “Most
Improved Driver” award.
“We wanted a little better finish, but we did accomplish
what we wanted to do. These first five races are so critical
because even though we are guaranteed in from last years points,
we want to be in the top 15 going into the sixth race.” Sherman
said. “At the start of the race the car was pretty
loose so we made the call to come in and make some adjustments
early on. We probably should have waited on making those
adjustments though, because as the race went on we learned that
the car started to handle better during the longer green flag
runs.”
Team owner, John McGill was pleased with the weekend. “When
you look at the teams we finished ahead of, especially considering
that over half of the field was Nextel Cup regulars, I am real
happy with Brent and the teams performance. We have a lot
of new guys on the team this year and they did an excellent job
over the winter preparing for this season and I think it showed
at Daytona.”
