Mike Wallace Up One Spot After So Cal; Gecko Going Home

Fontana, CA (August 30, 2008) – After leaving Bristol with a wrecked race car, Wallace and the GEICO Racing team were seeking redemption when they arrived in Southern California.  Having lost a spot in the point standings, Wallace was looking to score a good finish for the #7 GEICO Camry and continue his pursuit of the Top 5.

When Wallace wrapped up practice in the steamy desert climate of Fontana, he sat 15th and 20th in the respective sessions and was poised for qualifying.

The qualifying session found Wallace and the #7 GEICO Camry touring the 2-mile facility in 42.110 seconds, at a rate of speed of 170.981 miles per hour.  His two-lap journey would be good for a 26th starting position when the race got underway amidst steamy temperatures.

When the green flag waved under the dusk sky, Wallace and the Gecko would begin to make their way through the field and find themselves in the Top 20 by Lap 38.  Wallace would run solidly around the Top 15 and even break into the Top 10 where he ran 7th.

When the checkered flag was displayed, Wallace and the #7 GEICO Camry would record a 16th place finish, improving ten spots from their starting position.  With just 8 races remaining in the 2008 season, the solid finish would help Wallace and the Gecko jump a spot in the point standings to 8th.

“We had a solid run tonight and it allowed us to pick up a spot in the point standings,” Wallace said.  “We’re looking forward to getting to Richmond this week and seeing all of the GEICO folks that will be at the race. It’s only about 90-miles from their corporate office, so we always look forward to our visit to RIR.”

This week, Mike Wallace and the Germain Racing team will pack up the #7 GEICO Camry and take the Gecko close to home.

Mike Wallace and the #7 GEICO Camry will hit the track at Richmond International Raceway for their sole practice session on Friday, September 5th, at 8:45 AM (ET).  Qualifying will be held on Friday afternoon at 4:05 PM (ET).
