Mike Wallace Returns to the Scene of the Win

Player Management International Media Release

Daytona Beach, FL (July 4, 2007) – It was not long ago that Mike Wallace, GEICO and Sport Clips stood together in Victory Lane.  On July 2, 2004, he passed Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Jason Leffler coming out of Turn 4 to win the Winn-Dixie 250 to become one of only a handful of Busch Series regulars to win at the historic race track since the 1980’s.

A restrictor plate specialist, Wallace has recorded three wins at the famed 2.5-mile tri-oval.  In February 2003, Wallace etched his name in the record books at the legendary speedway when he recorded three Top 10 finishes in three days in three different series and driving for three different manufacturers: 6th in a Chevrolet in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, 4th in a Pontiac in the NASCAR Busch Series race and 9th in a Dodge in NASCAR Nextel Cup’s Daytona 500.

After a rough week in Loudon, New Hampshire, Wallace is eager to return to his ‘home track’ of sorts.

“Needless to say, I am thrilled to be returning to Daytona because of the success that I’ve experienced there,” Wallace said.  “Restrictor plate racing is almost a science and it comes down to knowing what to do and what not to do with the draft.  It takes a lot of talent and patience and you have to really enjoy that type of racing.  For three hours there will be 43 cars door to door and it can get stressful at times, but it’s what I love to do and something that over the years I have become very good at.”

He continued, “Daytona is a special place for me, as well as GEICO and Sport Clips because this is the place where we all stood in Victory Lane together a couple of years ago.  I am looking forward to driving the Gecko to the front of the field this week and putting both GEICO and Sport Clips in front of the TV cameras.”

Mike Wallace and his #7 GEICO Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS will hit the track at Daytona International Speedway when practice starts at 2:30 PM (ET) on Thursday, July 5th.  Final practice is at 5:30 PM (ET), followed by qualifying on Friday afternoon at 1:05 PM (ET).

The Winn-Dixie 250 presented by PepsiCo NASCAR Busch Series race will be televised live on ESPN2 beginning at 7:30 PM (ET) on Friday, July 6, 2007, with green flag action coming at 8:00 PM (ET).  Motor Racing Network (MRN) will carry the live radio broadcast.
