Papis to run Texas Busch race

NASCAR SCENE DAILY - FRIDAY OCTOBER 13, 2006

CONCORD, N.C. - Max Papis will get his first taste of a NASCAR oval when he drives the No. 36 McGill Motorsports Busch Series car at Texas Motor Speedway next month.

Papis drove for McGill and finished 14th at Watkins Glen earlier this year. He is bringing Sport Clips as a sponsor.

Papis has experience in IROC, Champ Car and Indy Racing League cars at Texas.

"I'm very excited," the veteran sports car racer said Thursday at Lowe's Motor Speedway. "It's going to be my first big oval race at a very demanding track. I have a good coach in [crew chief] Ricky Pearson. I really want to deliver a good result."

It has been a diverse year for the Italian-born racer as his schedule has included the Indianapolis 500 (where he finished 14th), the 24 Hours of Le Mans (in a Corvette) and the Busch race at Watkins Glen.

Papis said he would like to run a part-time Busch schedule next season when his road-course schedule permits.
