Road rage or good PR?

Fisticuffs are not exactly the ideal promotional vehicle for getting fans to eyeball auto racing, but in the world of Champ Car, they'll take all the hype they can get.

For the second straight race, Canadian driver Paul Tracy found himself on the receiving end of a challenge to put up his dukes after a fender-bender with a fellow driver.

Last race in San Jose, Tracy took out fellow Canuck Alex Tagliani while attempting to re-enter the race after a spinout.

Instead of sliding back into the race, Tracy took out Tagliani and, on the way to the pits, heated words between the two escalated into a shoving match.

Later, PT made light of the situation, saying that next time Tagliani wanted to challenge him to a fight, perhaps he would remove his helmet first.

He must be a hockey fan.

This past weekend in Denver, Tracy was in hot water once again. After he challenged Sebastien Bourdais in the final lap, trying to take second place, Tracy gave no quarter and both cars ended up as scrap metal.

The Frenchman hopped out of his car and dangerously charged across the track to confront the Canadian.

Tracy, showing his bad-boy brashness, signalled Bourdais to "bring it on."

Post-race interviews proved how unapologetic this Ontario boy can be: "I don't feel sorry for him, he took me out of five races last year so I guess payback's a bitch."

Tell me these aren't highlights and interviews that will make every sports telecast around the world.

PT's no dummy when it comes to PR and race organizers in Montreal have to love all of the buzz surrounding the circuit as they host the next race Aug. 27.

It has always been that when we think of great Canadian sluggers, Lennox Lewis comes to mind ... or perhaps Jason Bay ... it's pretty safe to say that now Paul Tracy can park himself on the list.
