Cheever Racing/GEICO Texas Post-Race Release

Fort Worth, Texas, June 10, 2006 -- A quick glance of the Bombardier 500k race results will show an unimpressive 17th place finish for Eddie Cheever Jr., but the team leaves Texas reassured as they head for the Richmond, Virginia short oval in two weeks.

"By the end of the race," Cheever said, "the GEICO car was quick and I could run anywhere on the track and right up any gearbox. We made a lot of improvement on the setup since racing at the Homestead oval."

With only two short yellow flag caution periods, and no crashes, the one hour and 34 minute race was the third quickest in IRL history. Starting 16th, Cheever went a lap down in the No. 51 GEICO Dallara/Honda with the unlucky timing of his first pit stop and the first yellow-flag period. He was further delayed when driver Kosuke Matsuura brought his car down on Cheever's car damaging the right side of the front wing.

"After my wing was damaged I drove the car with a lot of push until we could get the car in for the final scheduled pit stop to change the wing," Cheever said. "We could have really used a yellow at that point of the race."

The Cheever Racing crew will participate in the next round of the IRL IndyCar Series at Richmond International Raceway. The SunTrust Indy Challenge will be at 8 p.m. (EDT) on June 24. The race will be televised live by ESPN2 and the IMS Radio Network.
